  • Serve as a member of the Early Childhood Management Team in overall coordination and planning for the early childhood programs.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and is cooperative with all staff, parents, volunteers and community.
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring the use of educational resources, i.e. Teaching Strategies Gold, Creative Curriculum. Supervise, provide coaching and oversee the positions of Education Coach and Education Technicians.
  • Responsible for development, implementation, and revisions of CAPCA’s School Readiness Plan annually.
  • Obtain CLASS Reliability and maintain current certification. Conduct CLASS Observations of every preschool classroom each program year and provide feedback and professional development goals to teachers. Uses overall program CLASS scores to plan teacher professional development and individual teacher CLASS scores to guide intensive coaching and individual professional development.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring reports to the Early Childhood Director on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct monthly Site Visits to monitor the Education Service area, complete the Site Visit Form and follow up as necessary.
  • Responsible for annually updating the Education, Early Childhood Development, Literacy and Transition areas of the Head Start policies and procedures, in conjunction with School Readiness Advisory Committee and Policy Council.
  • Responsible for monitoring and providing training and technical assistance to program sites and parents in the areas of Education, Literacy and Transition. This will include but is not limited to:

*ensuring that educational home visits and conferences are made in a timely manner

*assessment and individualization of children birth-5 years old

*sharing procedures and policies

*implementing recommendations from consultants.

  • Responsible for organizing and training the School Readiness Advisory Committee, providing guidance in the development of the program’s curriculum and approach to child development and education.
  • Obtain and update regularly, Transition Agreements with local public-school districts, HIPPY, ABC Programs, and other education agencies.
  • Responsible for developing and/or modifying a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages birth to five.
  • Provide directions to classroom staff in the development and use of learning centers and in purchasing educational supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain computerized tracking system regarding Education, Literacy, PACT and Transition information.
  • Mobilize local resources in the fields of Education, Literacy and Transition.
  • Assist in annually updating the Resource Directory for the service area.
  • Work with local, state, regional and national resource persons to accomplish goals in the Education, Literacy and Transition content areas.
  • Monitor children’s records as required by Office of Head Start and licensing regulations.
  • Responsible for overseeing the monitoring of lesson plans and providing feedback by the center managers.
  • Responsible for approving PACT lesson plans and providing feedback when necessary.
  • Approve Education portion of the Field Trip Authorization and receive the Field Trip Follow-up.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing child outcomes including analyzing data, reviewing, recommending and assisting in the implementation of program improvements related to child outcomes.
  • Work with center staff to maintain Better Beginnings or Quality Start credentialing.
  • Assist in interviewing and making recommendations for educational staff positions.
  • Serve as a support and role model for staff in centers.
  • Be a member of local Education Organizations and attend scheduled meetings for collaboration.
  • Become a trainer through the Professional Development Registry (PDR) to register training conducted for Education
  • Serve as part of the annual Self-Assessment team.
  • Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind for parent and community activities.
  • Attend meetings, Quality Team Meetings (QTM), Early Childhood Team Meetings (ECTM), Administrative Office Meetings (AOM), center staff meetings and parent meetings as requested.
  • Responsible for data management relevant to child development and educational areas, Literacy and transition.
  • Responsible for avoidance or appearance of fraud and ensuring compliance in the overall management of the Agency.

Educational Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education or baccalaureate or advanced degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool–age children.

Experience Requirements:

  • 2 years in Head Start or other child development program. A degree in Early Childhood Education may be substituted for experience.
  • Computer proficient.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass tuberculosis screening annually and initial health examination within the first three months of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle with liability insurance and willing to use vehicle for Agency related travel.
  • Able to travel out of area overnight to attend or conduct training or make on-site visits.
  • Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
